Rob Gronkowski says Brock Bowers has the potential to be better than himself

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers caught the attention of an NFL legend this weekend.

Bowers set a career-high with nine catches for 98 yards in the Raiders’ surprise 26-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. His teammate Davante Adams sat in the front row for the rookie’s breakout game and caught nine passes himself while lining up alongside Bowers.

Five-time Pro Bowler and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski also watched Bowers closely.

“(Bowers) promises to look like the guy who is on the screen with us right now,” Adams said in Tuesday’s episode of Up & Adams Showreferring to Gronkowski. “This young player is on a whole different level for a rookie.”

“I agree, Davante,” Gronkowski said. “Brock Bowers, I was a huge fan of his when he was at Georgia. I think he’s on his way to being better than me. I don’t think he can dominate in the trenches the way I dominated in the trenches. But overall, I think he can outperform me as a pass-catching tight end in a lot of situations.”

With his performance on Sunday, Bowers increased his season total to 15 catches for 156 yards – setting the all-time record for most catches by a rookie tight end through two games in NFL history.

Gronkowski made two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown in his first two career games as a rookie in 2010.

Bowers should continue to make plenty of catches this week as Las Vegas faces the Carolina Panthers (0-2) on Sunday. The Panthers have given up 104 yards and two touchdowns to tight ends in two games this season.
