Rich Homie Quan, “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” rapper, dies at 34

Rapper Rich Homie Quan has died at the age of 34.

TMZ reported that the platinum-selling rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died at his home in Atlanta on September 5.

The cause of Lamar’s death is currently unknown.

The Fulton County coroner confirmed the death and said in a statement that he had been notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Rich Homie Quan will perform in Detroit in September 2023.

Born on October 4, 1989, the artist officially began releasing music in 2012 before scoring his first major hits the following year with “Type of Way” and featuring on YG’s “My N—-” with Jeezy.

He has had further chart hits since then with “Walk Thru” with Problem and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” – his most successful solo single on the Billboard Hot 100 – as well as “Ride Out” featuring Kid Ink, Tyga, Wale and YG, “Lifestyles” featuring Young Thug and “Save Dat Money” featuring Lil Dicky and Fetty Wap.

His debut album Rich as in spiritwas released in March 2018 and reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 diagram.

Throughout his career, Lamar has also collaborated with artists such as Rick Ross, Keke Palmer, Jeremih, Future, Boosie BadAzz, Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz.

Lamar is the father of four sons – two with Amber “Rella” Williams and two from a previous relationship, reports Bckonline.

Shortly after the news of Lamar’s death became known, the rapper received condolences from numerous fellow artists on the Internet.

Boosie, 41, confirmed reports of an overdose causing Lamar’s death in a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“Just talked to you bro,” he wrote in another post. “#tipQUAN Never forget your smile and the way you talked and of course your music.”

Rich Homie Quan will perform in Louisville in May 2024.

In a follow-up post, Boosie added: “WE HAVE SOME GREAT MEMORIES TOGETHER AND THEY ALWAYS BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE #restupquan WE’VE ALSO DONE SOME SHIT.”

Fellow rapper Playboi Carti paid tribute by sharing several videos of Lamar on his Instagram story.
