Review: Sporting KC wins 3-0 against Orlando City SC

Seven minutes into the second half, Sporting doubled their lead with a superbly worked goal that ended with Davis sending a diagonal pass to Thommy, who skilfully chipped the ball into the path of Salloi. Salloi made no mistake from then on, firing the ball into the near post for his second goal of the season and his 60th career goal for the club in all competitions. Salloi now has 100 goal involvements for Sporting in all competitions, becoming the fourth player in the club’s history to reach the milestone, joining Preki, Graham Zusi and current teammate Johnny Russell.

In a match dominated by coach Peter Vermes’ side, Sporting suffered a setback in the 70th minute when striker Willy Agada was shown a red card for a brutal foul. The striker initially received a second yellow card, which led to his expulsion, but the video referee got Tim Ford to re-watch the match and Agada was officially given a red card, which has suspended him for Sporting’s MLS away match at the New York Red Bulls on September 7.

Walter added more luster to the triumph in second-half stoppage time, firing a sublime shot into the left corner from 22 yards after substitute Alan Pulido fed him a pass on the edge of the box. Walter has equaled his career-high in MLS with three goals in 2024 – all from outside the box. That means Sporting has scored 12 goals from outside the box this season, a league-leading 12.
