Day 15 of the Paris Olympics was a great success for the US team. The US won several gold medals in women’s soccer, men’s basketball and track and field. The US team also took silver in the men’s high jump and bronze in the sprint (which could be a one-off). The US could also be stripped of a bronze medal in women’s gymnastics in a surprise decision.

Here are the top five stories of the day:

The USWNT’s Emma Hayes era is off to a strong start, with the team defeating Brazil 1-0 to win its first Olympic gold medal since 2012.

After going scoreless in a physical, fast-paced first half, the USA ended their drought with a beautiful goal from Mallory Swanson in the 57th minute. Some incredible saves from Alyssa Naeher helped the USA keep the score for the rest of the game.

The victory caps a grueling Olympic tournament in which the USA played six games in just over two weeks – including several that went into overtime.

The loss earned Brazil the silver medal. Marta, Brazil’s captain and iconic figure in the world of women’s football, won a medal in what was likely her last major international match.

Winning the gold medal gives the USWNT a confidence boost after their early exit from the World Cup last summer. More importantly, it promises a very bright future for this young, talented American team as the next generation finds their place in the world of international soccer.

The U.S. men’s basketball team won gold at the fifth consecutive Olympic Games with a 98-87 victory over France on Saturday.

Stephen Curry came to Team USA’s rescue again, hitting three consecutive three-pointers in the final two minutes of the game. He finished the game with a total of 24 points, hitting 8 of 13 three-pointers.

Victor Wembanyama scored the highest points of the game for the host country with 26 points and seven rebounds. Guerschon Yabusele followed with 20 and Nando De Colo contributed 12. Nicolas Batum grabbed eight rebounds.

Kevin Durant won his fourth gold medal, the most in men’s Olympic basketball history. LeBron James also won his fourth Olympic medal with three golds and one bronze.

James was also named FIBA Olympic Basketball Most Valuable Player. He averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists during the U.S. national team’s six-game run to the gold medal.

The final day of track and field competitions was a big day for the United States as the U.S. team’s dominance in track and field continued.

It started with the 100-meter hurdles, where Masai Russell took gold in a photo finish with France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela. Samba-Mayela ended up taking silver, while Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn – the defending champion in the event – took bronze.

In the 5,000m race, Grant Fisher again made American long-distance history by coming back to win a bronze medal. It was a perfect ending for Fisher, as he had also won an unexpected bronze medal in the 10,000m race at the start of the race and won his second bronze medal on the last day of the race.

Shelby McEwan took silver in the high jump for the US team after New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr won a tiebreaker. Kerr and McEwan failed to reach the same height and could have settled for a shared gold medal. But the two jumpers are competitors and decided to keep jumping to determine the winner. It was a gamble for McEwan, but he still ends up with a silver medal.

The final two races of the day were the men’s and women’s 4x400m, with Team USA taking a clear win in both races. The men’s relay team of Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon and Rai Benjamin narrowly beat Botswana to take gold, with Benjamin finishing just ahead of Botswana’s Letslie Tebogo.

The women’s team, however, left the competition completely behind: the relay team finished with a time of 3:15.27, setting a new American record and beating the next two teams (the Netherlands and Great Britain) by more than four seconds.

Shamier Little opened the season for the USA, but Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone built a huge lead in the second heat and Gabby Thomas and Alexis Holmes took the lead home from there. Team USA has now won the last eight women’s 4x400m relays in a row – and that dominance continued in Paris.

On the second day of breakdancing competition during the sport’s first – and perhaps last – Olympic Games, B-Boy Victor, aka Victor Montalvo, took home the bronze medal for Team USA.

Although neither of the two B-girls on the US team advanced from the round robin, both American B-boys qualified for the quarterfinals. American B-boy Jeffro was defeated in the quarterfinals by French B-boy Dany Dann, who made it to the finals. Victor defeated Kazakhstani Amir in the quarterfinals, but lost to Dany Dann in the semifinals.

The Floridian native fought for bronze against Japan’s Shigekix, who he faced in the round robin. Although Victor played 1-1 against Shigekix in that round and was down 12 points to 6, Victor prevailed against Shigekix in the third place match, winning by unanimous decision with 20 points to 7 from Shigekix.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team could lose one of its medals at the Paris Games, which could be heartbreaking news for Jordan Chiles.

Chiles could be stripped of the bronze medal she won in the floor exercise after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the appeal against Chiles’ score, which helped her coach Cecile Landi win a medal, was lodged after the one-minute time limit had expired.

Because the appeal was denied, Chile’s score of 13.766 dropped to her original score of 13.666, below Romania’s Ana Barbosa’s score of 13.700. USA Gymnastics appealed the CAS decision, claiming that the timing of the investigation was far less important than the correct score.

Chiles is back in the United States waiting to hear whether she will have to return her bronze medal while the appeals process continues.

As mentioned above, the United States won the gold medal game in men’s basketball and LeBron James was named the Most Valuable Player of the Olympic tournament. However, France put up a fierce fight with Victor Wembanyama and Guerschon Yabusele.

The highlight of the game was probably Yabusele’s poster dunk over James in the second quarter, which got the crowd in the Bercy Arena going.

South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley and her former player Kamila Cardoso have apparently had a friendly bet in Saturday’s women’s soccer gold medal game between the United States and Brazil. And with the United States winning, it’s time for Brazilian-born Cardoso to take the blame.

As Staley explainedIf Brazil wins, the coach will have to wear a Brazil national team jersey on the sidelines at a Gamecocks game. If the U.S. wins, Cardoso will have to wear a USWNT jersey during the tunnel walk before an upcoming Chicago Sky game and in an Instagram Live video.

A size L USA jersey is believed to be on the way to Cardoso, she reluctantly admitted on social media.
