Report: Broncos will promote RB Tyler Badie and S Tanner McCalister from their practice squad

According to Mike Klis of 9NEWS Denver, the Denver Broncos are promoting running back Tyler Badie and safety Tanner McCalister from their practice squad to their game day roster for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With rookie running back Audric Estime on the injured list, running back Tyler Badie will be ranked higher for the second week in a row. Last Sunday against the Steelers, Badie had a 16-yard run and fans and media wondered why he didn’t get more runs during the game. The Broncos’ running game struggled mightily against the Steelers, but Badie’s lone run was one of the few bright spots the team had on offense last week. Now, he’ll get another chance to earn some runs when the Broncos face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Week 3 game tomorrow. I would expect Badie to get a few more runs and touches in that game and hopefully he can be productive again.

McCalister is being upgraded because safety JL Skinner is already out for tomorrow’s game with an injury. The reserve safety will provide some depth behind starters PJ Locke and Brandon Jones, and Devon Key and Keidron Smith will be added to the Broncos’ roster as reserve safeties. McCalister played three games for the Cleveland Browns last season before signing with the Broncos and spending the entire offseason with the team. He was signed to their practice squad last month and will now play his first game with the team this season. He will provide some depth and play on special teams in tomorrow’s game against the Buccaneers.

A team can promote a player from practice to playing time a maximum of three times per year. This is Badie’s second promotion and McCalister’s first this season.
