Report: Bears rookie delivered “almost perfect performance” against Bills

Chicago Bears fans were thrilled Saturday afternoon after rookie quarterback Caleb Williams passed his first NFL test with flying colors.

Williams’ sample size against the Buffalo Bills wasn’t enormous (just two drives), but the first-round pick made a number of game-winning plays, including some with a notably high degree of difficulty.

The NFL editors of Bleacher Report were certainly impressed with Williams and devoted a detailed article to him about the first preseason games over the weekend, especially in a section titled “Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams causes a stir with a near-perfect performance in his debut.”

“It’s hard not to be impressed with the performance of Caleb Williams, this year’s No. 1 overall pick, in his debut Saturday against the Buffalo Bills,” said Bleacher Report’s NFL editorial team.

“Williams showed some of the qualities that made him a special talent… An off-balance laser while rolling to the right with a defender chasing him is not normal. It’s an extraordinary throw.”

“Remember, he was nearly perfect during both drives. He would have completed his first six passes before a complete failure if tight end Cole Kmet and DJ Moore hadn’t thrown two consecutive drops. … The Chicago Bears have never had such a talented quarterback.”

With excitement for the regular season high but little football to watch, it will be difficult for Bears fans not to participate in a massive overreaction to two drives.

At the same time, Williams played a typical game and there is no reason to believe that he cannot repeat – and build on – many of the moves from his debut.
