The Pac-12 Conference announced Thursday that Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State will become new members as the organization repositions itself following a college athletic conference realignment that hit it hard.

All four universities currently members of the Mountain West Conference will join Oregon State and Washington State on July 1, 2026. Development Commissioner Teresa Gould called this “an exciting new era for the Pac-12 Conference.”

“For over a century, the Pac-12 Conference has been recognized as the premier brand in college sports,” Gould said in a statement. “We will continue to pursue bold, innovative opportunities for growth and advancement to best serve our member institutions and student-athletes.”

Oregon State President Jayathi Murthy and Washington State President Kirk Schulz said in a joint statement, “We eagerly await their uniquely insightful contributions in this transformative era for the conference and college athletics.”

The Pac-12, long known as the Conference of Champions, was decimated in a major reorganization of college sports, with ten of the twelve schools moving to other conferences this year.

UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington now play in the Big Ten Conferencewhile UC Berkeley and Stanford are among the newest members of the Atlantic Coast ConferenceMeanwhile, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah play in the Big 12 Conference.

The outgoing members have agreed to pay $65 million to the Pac-12 as part of an agreement with Oregon State and Washington State. Separately, the University of California Board of Regents UCLA must pay UC Berkeley $10 million over three yearsa move that was described as “Calimony” by supporters of both schools.

The two Pac-12 schools currently have a scheduling agreement with the Mountain West to play football games.

In a statement provided to CBS Sports, Mountain West club commissioner Gloria Nevarez said they were aware of the reports of a departure and would have more to say in the coming days.

“Our board is meeting to determine our next steps. Mountain West has a proud 25-year history and will continue to be successful for years to come,” Nevarez said.

After the schools leave, Mountain West will have seven full members: Air Force, Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico, San Jose State, Utah State and Wyoming.
