Rebecca Ferguson has signed a contract to play the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The magical faraway tree.
Ferguson has joined the cast in the role of Dame Snap, the story’s fearsome headmistress.
The film is currently being shot in England at Shinfield Studios. Adapted by BAFTA award winner Simon Farnaby (Wonka, Paddington2), directed by Ben Gregor (Britannia, cuckoo, Black operations, fatherhood).
The film’s producer is Oscar-nominated Pippa Harris (Empire of Light, 1917, Call of the Midwife) and Nicholas Brown (Britannia, informant, Penny novel) by Neal Street Productions, together with Danny Perkins (Largest Days) by the Elysian Film Group and Jane Hooks (Golda, LifeExecutive producers include Simon Williams, Joe Simpson and Jonathan Bross of Ashland Hill Media Finance and Tamara Birkemoe of Palisades Park Pictures.

Ferguson joins the cast, which, as previously announced, also includes Andrew Garfield (tick, tick…BOOM!, Hacksaw Ridge) and Claire Foy (We are all strangers, women talk).
“Rebecca has a commanding screen presence, is one of the finest actresses of her generation and will be an electrifying addition to our film,” Gregor said this morning.
Also starring in the film are Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous, Shrek 2), Hiran Abeysekera (Shipwreck with Tiger, The Father and the Murderer), Pippa Bennett-Warner (Gangs of London, Watch Them Run, Chloe), Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton, Derry Girls), Nonso Anozie (Sweet tooth, Ted Lasso) and Jessica Gunning (Baby reindeer).
Ferguson is repped by Chalcot Square, CAA and Anonymous Content.
