Reba McEntire brought country to Hollywood at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The 69-year-old “Fancy” singer appeared at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, for the awards ceremony with her former Reba Co-Star Melissa Peterman. While I was Laverne Cox During E!’s red carpet coverage, McEntire and Peterman talked about their new sitcom. Happy’s Placein which McEntire’s boyfriend also plays, Rex LinnHowever, according to McEntire, her and Linn’s characters will not be together on screen.
“That’s possible later, like in season 7,” the country star joked to 52-year-old Cox.
McEntire will present an award during the ceremony on Sunday. She will soon be seen again on the small screen in Happy’s Placewhich premieres Friday, October 18, on NBC. She plays a woman named Bobbie who inherits her father’s bar after his death. Linn, 67, plays a chef named Emmett.
Earlier this year, McEntire said it was “wonderful” to work with Linn on the show. “We love working together,” she said Extra in May. “The best part is that he’s my coach, so when we’re at home, he helps me with my lines and memorization. He’s wonderful. He helps me a lot.”
McEntire and Linn met on set in 1991 The return of the player with the late Kenny RogersAt that time, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstockwith whom she has son Shelby (34), but she and Linn have stayed in touch “occasionally” over the years. They reconnected in 2020 when McEntire made a guest appearance on Young Sheldon(She divorced Blackstock, 68, in 2015.)
According to McEntire, she and Linn went out to dinner with friends one night after work and she “started seeing Rex in a whole new light.” They began texting each other in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and quickly hit it off.
“We talked for hours every day,” she recalls in her 2023 book. Not so chic. “We could only talk! But that wasn’t bad. It gave us the chance to get to know each other better. From the first phone call, I was just myself with him – never pretended or acted. We were just ‘us’ and it worked.”
That first dinner was also the reason for their mutual nicknames: Sugar Tot and Tater Tot. The nicknames came about because McEntire ordered tater tots at that first dinner.
“I love Tater Tots,” she wrote. “Rex is known for giving people nicknames. When he heard me say ‘Tater Tots,’ he said, ‘That’s our nickname.’ And that’s what he still calls me to this day.” (She calls him Sugar Tot.)
In addition to McEntire and Linn Happy’s Place Peterman, who previously starred alongside McEntire in her first sitcom, also stars in the lead role. Rebawhich aired from 2001 to 2007.
“We have been friends ever since,” said Peterman Weekly entertainment in July. “We’ve done other things together. I’ve gotten to tour with her and open the show and do stand-up, and we go on vacation together. We hang out together and were just waiting for another project so we could actually work together again.”
