Rasheed Walker is honored for his volunteer work at the Welcome Back Packers Luncheon

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — Packers offensive tackle Rasheed Walker was honored Friday with an award for his service to the community.

Walker received the Community Service Award at this year’s Welcome Back Packers Luncheon, an annual event that began over 60 years ago as a partnership between the Greater Green Bay Chamber and the Green Bay Packers.

More than 1,000 people filled the Lambeau Field Atrium for the celebratory event, which served as the unofficial kickoff to the Packers’ regular season.

Walker was selected by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Officials say since then he has “made the most of his opportunities, both on and off the field.”

Walker participated in the Packers Tailgate Tour, visiting fans across Wisconsin at schools, businesses, retirement homes, and a military base, among other locations. He also served as a guest reader at an elementary school in his hometown of Washington, DC, during Read Across America Week.

In addition, Walker hosts a free football camp every year at his alma mater, North Point High School in Waldorf, Maryland. There, kids can spend a day participating in football practices and becoming mentors. The camp also provides free meals to children in need.

During his two seasons with the Packers, Walker has shopped for Christmas gifts with children in the Pals program, which connects children involved with Brown County Child Services with positive role models.

Additionally, he raised money through the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” initiative and raised awareness for Black Women’s Health Imperative, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Black women and girls across the country.

“I just want to thank God for putting me in a position to win this award. I appreciate the Packers and look forward to giving back even more in the future. I look forward to winning a Super Bowl this year. Go Pack Go,” Walker said in his remarks.

“One thing we always talk to our guys about when we draft them: It’s not always about how you get here, it’s about what you do when you get here. I mean, this guy is a seventh-round draft pick. He’s the starting left tackle for the Green Bay Packers and he’s giving back to the community in a big way. Really proud of you,” said head coach Matt LaFleur.

During the Welcome Back Packers Luncheon, attendees will get a taste of LaFleur’s upcoming season.

Additionally, each table features a Packers player or coach, allowing the team to interact with community members on a one-on-one basis. Jordan Love, Christian Watson, Jaire Alexander, Romeo Doubs, Kenny Clark and Lukas Van Ness were just a few of the big names in attendance.
