RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – The Rapid City Sports Commission was formed in 2022 with the goal of promoting sports in the community. Thanks to the commission, Rapid City is now home to many new regional and national sporting events.

The goal of the commission is to promote sports and make them more accessible to the population. The commission is financed through city funds. While the City Council prepares the budget for 2025, the president of the Sports Commission, Domico Rodriguez, hopes that part of the funds will be allocated to the Sports Commission.

This year, the Sports Commission brought a brand new baseball tournament to the area, attracting thousands of athletes. Not only do the athletes benefit, but the entire community benefits from the tourists’ spending.

Next year, the Commission looks forward to hosting the National Trampolining and Tumbling Championships, along with the National BMX Championships taking place the week after. The Commission works closely with the Parks and Recreation Department to ensure that all events benefit everyone in the community.
