Bengaluru: The 21-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted at HSR Layout at midnight last Saturday displayed remarkable composure despite the traumatic circumstances by using the SOS (Save Our Souls) feature on her smartphone to alert her friends and family.
Two of her friends quickly responded to the distress signal, rushed to the scene and immediately took her to a nearby hospital.
Although the investigation is ongoing, police officials suspect that the arrival of her friends may have forced the perpetrator to abandon the crime midway. They said the incident could have been worse had the victim not Presence of mind.
The SOS feature is a built-in emergency alert system available on many Android devices. When activated, it can quickly send an emergency message along with the user’s location to pre-selected emergency contacts.
Once the SOS signal is triggered, the phone sends an automatic message with the user’s real-time location to the selected emergency contacts. Some devices also enable audio and video recording, providing potential evidence for law enforcement.
