Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp is expected to be out for an “extended period of time” due to an ankle injury and could be placed on the injured list, according to coach Sean McVay.

Kupp suffered the injury during the 41-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. During the first quarter, his left ankle was twisted on a tackle. He was carried off the field but walked to the locker room without assistance – albeit with a noticeable limp.

After the game, Kupp was seen leaving the locker room with a walking shoe on his left leg.

Before leaving the game, Kupp had caught four passes for 37 yards. In the loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 1, he caught 14 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.

Kupp’s injury leaves the Rams without their two best receivers. Puka Nacua is expected to miss 5-7 weeks after spraining his right knee against Detroit and being placed on the injured list.

With Kupp and Nacua out, Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson have taken over as the Rams’ top receivers. Robinson has six catches for 11 yards this season, while Johnson has seven catches for 99 yards.

This is the third consecutive season that Kupp has been sidelined by injury. Last season, he played in 12 games because of a hamstring strain. In 2022, Kupp suffered an ankle sprain that limited him to nine games.

When healthy and able to play all 17 games in 2021, Kupp had a spectacular season in which he led the NFL with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The Rams (0-2) host the San Francisco 49ers (1-1) in Week 3 on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
