Rams abroad! Fordham women’s basketball team travels to Greece

BRONX, NY – With the 2024-25 season just around the corner, the Fordham University women’s basketball team is looking forward to an eight-day overseas trip with stops in three Greek cities, including two summer preseason games against international opponents.

From August 10-18, the Rams will visit the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki and Halkidiki, taking time for sightseeing, cultural exploration and social events throughout the week. In addition, the Rams will do some preseason preparation overseas, playing two games against Thessaloniki Select on August 13 at 7:30 p.m. local time (12:30 p.m. EDT) and Athens Select on August 16, also at 7:00 p.m. local time (12:00 p.m. EDT).

The Rams’ trip to Europe is the first international trip for the Fordham women’s basketball program since 2017 and the first under the leadership of head coach Mitchell. “I am so excited to bring this year’s team to Greece,” said Coach Mitchell. “I am grateful to all of the supporters at Fordham for giving us this opportunity to provide these young women with an unforgettable experience. We will compete, explore and really get to know each other better. We are thrilled!”

In addition to competing abroad, the Rams will delve deep into Greek culture, with a guided tour of the archaeological site and royal tombs of Vergina, a tour of the Acropolis, snorkeling in the Aegean Sea and a bike tour of the historic city of Athens.

Continuing Fordham women’s basketball’s focus, Greece 2024 is a program that provides its student-athletes with an international trip at least once during their time at Rose Hill. This will be the program’s fourth planned adventure outside the United States and first since 2017, as the trip to Europe planned for 2020-21 was canceled due to the CoVID-19 pandemic.

In 2017, the Rams embarked on a 12-day European tour, exploring Venice, Verona, Padua, Milan, Rome and Barcelona, winning all five of their overseas games. Prior to the 2013-14 season, the Fordham women’s basketball team took a two-week trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, winning two of three games, including a victory over the Figian national team.

This version of the Rams returned from Down Under to win the program’s first Atlantic 10 championship and earn USA Today Top 25 votes before nearly knocking off No. 24 Cal in the Rams’ second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
