Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy argued with CNN anchor Kate Bolduan about Vice President Kamala Harris’s policy reversals after a new poll found that some voters perceive Harris as less radical than her Republican opponent, former President Trump.

Bolduan presented the CNN poll, which found that nearly 50 percent of likely voters in six swing states called Trump’s views “so extreme that they pose a threat,” and about 40 percent of voters in each of those states said the same about Harris’ views.

“If voters don’t agree with the extreme narrative against (Harris), do you think Team Trump should pivot now?” she asked.

Ramaswamy said he “respectfully disagreed” with that view, arguing that voters had not been informed by the media about Harris’s radical left past.

“Voters have not been educated about what Kamala Harris’s past positions actually were, especially not by the media,” Ramaswamy said. “I don’t blame voters. They’ve been fed a new version of Kamala Harris who is moving to the center on economic and social policies. But the reality is, if we can use Kamala Harris’ own words against her, and I think we should, she ran for president on taxing unrealized capital gains, on ‘abolishing’ – her words – on eliminating private health insurance, on banning fracking, on banning offshore drilling. These are the kinds of policies that are absolutely not mainstream for most Americans.”

Bolduan defended Harris’s change of position, saying she “made it clear” to CNN’s Dana Bash last week that she no longer supports a ban on private health insurance or fracking.

“Those are not her positions,” Bolduan said. “If she evolves on an issue … you could even call it back and forth, if that’s no longer allowed, if that should be the death sentence for a campaign, then Donald Trump is in trouble.”

Ramaswamy argued that Harris had not only “evolved” from her previous, radical-left views on several issues, but was also moving away from policies she had taken throughout her political career.

BILL MAHER POINTS OUT ABOUT HARRIS AND WALZ FLIP-FLOPS IN A CNN INTERVIEW: “IT’S JUST AN INSULT TO MY INTELLIGENCE”

“Actions speak louder than words,” he said.

“She said she was not in favor of banning fracking now. In fact, she was one of the strongest proponents of banning it, so much so that in California she sued the Obama administration for issuing fracking permits,” he continued. “She was not only in favor of eliminating private health insurance. She was a co-signer of the Medicare for All bill as a U.S. Senator with Bernie Sanders. In reality, if you think about the Green New Deal, she was the main proponent, not only as a co-signer of the bill, but she went even further and said she would end the filibuster tactics in the Senate to force this through. So in reality, she can now say what she wants to say, these are the actions she took.”

“Is anyone allowed to evolve?” he returned to Bolduan’s question. “Of course you can, but she deserves to explain exactly why she changed her position. Exactly what her position is. If it’s not a ban on fracking, then what exactly is it? What exactly is her health care plan if she’s no longer for the abolition of private health insurance? Which she did just four years ago when she ran for president. That’s the kind of critical reflection that’s missing.”

Harris ended her media drought last week when she gave her first interview with CNN’s Dana Bash since she was announced as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee 45 days ago. But she has not held a formal press conference or given any further interviews. Former President Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, have given at least 37 interviews combined in the past month.

Ramaswamy expressed hope that voters would learn more about Harris’ policies as she gives more media interviews and appears in next week’s ABC presidential debate.

“The American people and voters deserve a deep political debate that they did not have with Kamala,” Ramaswamy said.

Bolduan further questioned Ramaswamy on whether it was acceptable for a candidate to change his position over time.

“It’s not just a change of position,” Ramaswamy reiterated. “These are really tough positions that she has actually taken policy action on, both as vice president and attorney general and as a U.S. senator.”
