Heavy rain and strong winds have led to the cancellation of the second day of qualifying for the 2024 Manx Grand Prix after a driver died on the first day.
Race organizers said the weather was expected to “deteriorate significantly” throughout the afternoon and evening, leading to the cancellation of practice laps on Monday.
Conditions were expected to include heavy rain and winds of up to 80km/h. The cancellation means roads around the 60km Mountain Course will not be closed at 18:00 BST as planned.
Irish rider Louis O’Regan died on Sunday after a crash during the first qualifying run, which was not resumed.
The ‘Red Flag’ incident occurred towards the end of the session; organisers later confirmed Mr O’Regan’s death as a result of the accident at Kate’s Cottage.
Qualifying for the event is expected to continue until Thursday evening, with racing starting on Friday.
In addition to the scheduled practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the race director can also resort to emergency closures during the day between 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. if necessary.
An update to Tuesday’s schedule will be released at 9am (BST), organisers said.
