If you’re wondering when fall temperatures will arrive in San Antonio, dramatic changes won’t happen for weeks.

The National Weather Service reported that fall will officially arrive in San Antonio next Sunday at 7:43 a.m.

And almost as planned, a cold front is arriving this Sunday, which will help lower the daily highs. Highs throughout next week are expected to fall to near 90 degrees in San Antonio, only slightly cooler than this week. Sitting on the porch at night will be just a little less sticky.

The Climate Prediction Center reported that the long-range fall forecast for the Hill Country and South Texas doesn’t exactly encourage sweaters and hot cups of cocoa. The forecast for October through December calls for above-average temperatures and below-average chances of rain.

The northern half of Bexar County is experiencing moderate drought, while the lower half is classified as extremely dry by the US Drought Monitor, so the need for rain will continue this fall.

October is traditionally one of the rainiest months in San Antonio, as more cold fronts break through from the north and create more activity.

Some long-range forecasts predicted daytime highs in the 80s and early morning lows in the 60s in San Antonio during the first week of October, but the chance of rain remains low.
