PSOJ condemns Cherry Tree Lane murders and promises help in fighting crime | News

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) has strongly condemned Sunday’s fatal shooting in Cherry Tree Lane, Four Paths, Clarendon, while saying it is “ready to play an active role in initiatives to reduce crime and violence”.

Eight people were killed and ten others injured in the shooting on Sunday.

In a press release on Tuesday, the PSOJ said these brutal acts of violence were a stark reminder of the serious threat that crime continues to pose to the safety and well-being of Jamaicans.

“The PSOJ remains committed to working with the Government of Jamaica, civil society and all partners to address the root causes of crime and violence. We recognize that a multi-pronged approach is needed, which includes strengthening our justice system, improving education and employment opportunities, and promoting a culture of respect for life and the rule of law,” the statement said.

In addition, all Jamaicans were called upon to reject violence in all forms and to work together to build a safer and more peaceful Jamaica.

“We urge witnesses to call Crime Stop immediately at 311! Your identity will not be revealed, but if your information leads to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, your bravery will be rewarded and Jamaica and your community will be a safer place,” it continued.

The PSOJ said it had noted the statements issued by both political parties condemning this act of violence and called on all politicians, regardless of political affiliation, to unite in the fight against the scourge of crime and violence that is undermining Jamaica’s social and economic development.
