Prosecutor: NYC man threw ‘explosive device’ into work van during traffic aggression

BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn man is facing charges after throwing an “explosive device” into a Verizon delivery truck during an incident of driving aggression, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Kevindale Nurse, 36, who was arrested Thursday, was traveling in a white van with his 4-year-old son when he cut off a Verizon delivery truck on Jan. 31, prosecutors said.

Surveillance video shows Nurse driving erratically before stopping the white van next to the Verizon van at the intersection of President Street and Brooklyn Avenue in Crown Heights, prosecutors said.

Nurse then threw an explosive device into the driver’s side window of the Verizon van, causing an explosion inside the vehicle.

Two Verizon repair technicians in the vehicle suffered multiple injuries and their van was badly damaged by the explosion, prosecutors said.

“Nurse intentionally threw an explosive device through the window of another vehicle on a public street, endangering the lives of the vehicle’s occupants and others in the area,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. “Unfortunately, road rage is an all too common phenomenon in our communities. But this dangerous and senseless attack at a busy intersection in the heart of Brooklyn went beyond what was tolerable. We will pursue this case vigorously.”

If convicted of arson under federal law, Nurse faces a minimum sentence of seven years and a maximum of 40 years in prison, prosecutors said.
