Several progressive women’s groups remained silent when asked by Fox News Digital how Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s affair during his marriage to his ex-wife might affect his image as a champion of their cause.

Fox News Digital has reached out to EMILY’s List, the League of Women Voters, the Progressive Women’s Alliance of West Michigan, the National Organization for Women, the National Women’s Political Caucus, the Feminist Majority Foundation, the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, the Women’s Liberation Front and the International Center for Research on Women for comment. None of the groups responded by press time to a request for comment on whether Emhoff should face increased scrutiny as a potential next First Gentleman.

13 DAYS: Kamala Harris has not held a press conference since being named the presumptive Democratic nominee.

As a Democratic husband, Emhoff is active in a number of left-wing causes and encourages men to become pro-abortion advocates following the summer 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Earlier this year, he toured Florida, Arizona and North Carolina with Men4Choice to promote abortion rights, while his wife made press visits to abortion clinics.

“It’s a question of justice for women. Women are dying,” Emhoff said in an NBC interview in May. “It’s affecting men’s ability to plan their lives. And it’s also about what comes next, what other freedoms are at risk. And those freedoms affect all Americans, not just women.”

Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Harris, admitted to having an affair with a nanny shortly after the Daily Mail published a report last week that the second gentleman had an affair with his daughter’s nanny and impregnated her. The nanny’s close friend told the newspaper that she did not keep the baby but did not elaborate.

“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through difficult times because of my behavior. I took responsibility and in the years that followed, we worked through things as a family and came out of it stronger,” Emhoff told CNN last week about the affair.

Emhoff and his first wife were married from 1992 to 2008 and have two adult children. Harris married Emhoff in 2014 and helped raise his children, who call their stepmother “Mommala.”

The reason for the divorce was given as “irreconcilable differences,” the New York Post reported.

Harris knew about the affair before the wedding, and the Biden campaign also knew about it when it nominated her for Biden’s vice presidential nomination, CNN reported.

Kerstin Emhoff defended her ex in a statement to the Washington Post on Saturday.

“Doug and I decided to end our marriage many years ago for various reasons,” she wrote. “He is a great father to our children, continues to be a great friend to me, and I am truly proud of the warm and supportive blended family that Doug, Kamala and I have built together.”

Despite the affair and divorce, Kerstin Emhoff posted supportive messages about her ex-husband’s second wife and supported Harris on social media.
