MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A grand jury has indicted the driver who allegedly crashed into a food truck in Cordova in May after a local bar refused to give him alcohol.
Alton Turner, 43, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
According to court records, Turner was arraigned on the same charges on Tuesday.
He was released without bail shortly after his arrest, and Shelby County Jail records show he had not been booked back into jail as of Tuesday evening.
Food truck owner Mark Maughmer claims that on Friday, May 24, Turner stormed out of a nearby bar and into the Cordova Pit Stop Food Truck Park on Macon Road in an angry manner and behaved in a hostile manner toward him.
Maughmer is said to have asked the bartenders next door not to serve Turner any more alcohol because he had become belligerent.
Maughmer said he told him to leave and even tried to call Turner’s friend to pick him up, but the friend never came.
Surveillance video captured the moment Turner allegedly returned to the bar’s parking lot and then drove his Ford F-250 at full speed into Maughmer’s food truck, causing $30,000 in damage.
No injuries were reported.
Turner was held on $75,000 bail pending a bond hearing before Shelby County Judge Bill Anderson.
Court records show that Turner has previously been convicted of domestic violence causing bodily harm and drunk driving.
