Last year, Google made a big splash with its entry into the world of foldable phones. Their next version, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (also known as the Pixel Fold 2), is now official. Here’s everything you need to know.

At the Google event on August 13, the company introduced the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the rest of the Pixel 9 series.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro starts at $1,799, like its predecessor. All Pixel 9 Pro models also come with one year of Gemini Advanced and 2TB of cloud storage.

Technical data and features of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Here are some highlights announced with the release of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Larger screens

One of the key selling points of foldable phones is the dual screens. The original Pixel Fold featured a 5.8-inch outer/cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner/main screen.

As well The Android Authority Sources have predicted that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will have impressive screen specs:

• Cover image: 6.3 inches when the phone is folded
• Main screen (unfolded): 8 inches when opened, like a tablet

Compared to the 2208 x 1840 resolution (for the internal display) of the first Pixel Fold, the next Pixel Fold has a nearly square aspect ratio with a resolution of 2152 x 2076. The resolution of the cover screen has also been increased from 1080 x 2092 to 1080 x 2424.

Despite the second-generation Pixel Fold’s smaller battery (4,650mAh versus 4,821mAh on the original Fold), both screens also get brighter.

The tablet portion has an HDR brightness of 1600 nits compared to 1000 nits on the first Fold, making it 80 percent brighter, while the outer screen goes up from 1200 nits to 1800 nits. Both Pixel 9 Pro Fold screens reach a peak brightness of up to 2700 nits.

A larger screen isn’t always part of annual phone upgrades like this, but a newer, more powerful processor Is expected. And that’s exactly what the Pixel Fold 2024 offers.

The original Fold features the Google Tensor G2 chip, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold introduces the Tensor G4 and increases RAM from 12GB to 16GB, boosting performance for AI-specific tasks.

Square camera bar

Another interesting change is a new camera layout. Compared to the horizontal camera arrangement of the first Pixel Fold, the next Pixel Fold will have a new, boxy camera bar. We first heard about it in February and now it’s been confirmed by photos from Google’s August 13 reveal.
