There is no denying that Valencia have had a difficult start to the new La Liga season. They are currently bottom of the table with just one point from their first five games.

Los Che lost three consecutive games against Valencia, Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao in the first weeks of the season before closing August with a 1-1 draw at home to Villarreal.

Ruben BarajaHowever, the team could not build on that result as they lost 3-0 to Atletico on Sunday. They are bottom of the table with one point and have the second worst defensive record, having conceded 10 goals in their first five games.

Valencia finished ninth in La Liga last season and would have been looking to build on that in the new campaign, but performances have been extremely disappointing and their schedule is not going to get any easier with Girona and Real Sociedad on the cards in two of their next three games.

In fact, Los Che have lost their last three league games against Girona, including a 3-1 defeat when the two teams met in the corresponding match last season.

Girona will have to find a way to balance European and domestic football in the coming weeks and it will be exciting to see how the White and Reds perform this season.

The Catalans have lost two of their last three away games, including a 3-0 defeat at Atletico in late August, but they beat Sevilla 2-0 away before the international break.

Valencia has to do without five players due to injury. Fran Perez, Hugo Duro, Jose Gaya, Jaume Domenech And Mouctar Diakhaby not available while Rafa Mir is currently suspended from the club.

Duro’s absence is a major drawback considering his performance in the final third and it is likely that Daniel Gomez And Javi Guerra will operate through the middle again.

However, changes are expected to occur in many areas. Sergi Canos in the starting line-up, and his introduction could see Luis Rioja fall onto the bench.

As for Girona, Justin Garcia is out due to shoulder problems, while Ricard Artero remains out of action due to an ankle injury.

We think: Valencia 1-2 Girona

Valencia are really struggling at the moment and we can hardly help them get a positive result here. Girona come into the game on the back of a string of defeats, but we can see the Catalans winning a close game at the Mestalla this weekend.
