Ecuador starts the current international phase with a new coach after Sebastian Beccacece replaced Felix Sanchez after being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Copa America 2024.

Beccacece was unable to take anything away from his first game as coach and his team suffered a narrow defeat in the away match against Brazil.

RodrigoThe goal in the first half was enough to condemn Ecuador to a narrow 1-0 defeat and end their five-match unbeaten streak in World Cup qualifying.

Even though the trip to Brazil was unsuccessful for La Tri, the team still has to defend its winning streak: the last nine home games in the World Cup qualification could not be lost.

However, they must be aware that their last home defeat in World Cup qualifying was against Peru in June 2021.

In contrast to the hosts, Peru made it into the group at the Copa América 2024, picking up just one point in three games.

After failing to score at the Copa América, La Blanquirroja was relieved to get on the scoresheet in Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia.

However, they ended the game frustrated after Alexander Callens saw his start ruined by Luis DiazEqualizer in the 82nd minute.

After the 1-1 draw, Peru are still waiting for their first win in qualifying. They are five points behind the direct qualification places, three points behind.

La Blanquirroja can at least take some confidence from the fact that they have won three of their last four World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador (U1).

We think: Ecuador 2-1 Peru

Ecuador are usually a tough team to beat at home in qualifying matches and we believe the team will take full advantage of their home advantage to take all three points in their clash with the Peruvian side, who have lost two of their three away matches in the current qualifying cycle.
