Preview: Bruins’ preseason begins tonight against the Rangers

Only the facts

When: Tonight, 5:00 p.m.

Where: TD Garden – Boston, MA

Here’s how to proceed: NESN, 98.5 The Sports Hub

Know your enemy

  • The New York Rangers began their training camp with 63 players. This is also their first preseason game.
  • The Rangers signed a number of players to one-year contracts or contract extensions during the offseason, including defensemen Chad Ruhwedel and Ryan Lindgren.
  • The 2023–24 President Trophy winning season ended last year with the Florida Panthers defeating them in the Eastern Conference finals.

Game Notes

  • And so it begins! The Boston Bruins begin their preseason tonight against the New York Rangers. They will play seven preseason games this year, including a neutral-site game against the Los Angeles Kings. The B’s will play twice against the Rangers, Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers.
  • We don’t have too much information yet on who will be playing tonight, as the Bruins held a Black & Gold scrimmage yesterday afternoon in Providence. Expect a “Who’s Playing” post once the Bruins announce tonight’s lineup.
  • What we do know is that we still won’t see Jeremy Swayman…
  • Brad Marchand is also still rehabbing after recovering from three offseason surgeries, and Don Sweeney said this first week of camp that they are more focused on getting him back to full health than on training camp.
  • Matt Poitras will continue to be watched throughout training camp and these preseason games. He had a great performance yesterday along with Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak. Jim Montgomery said they will also move him to the wing to see where he fits best in the lineup.
  • But for those who didn’t make it to Providence, this could be the first opportunity to see Nikita Zadorov, Tyler Johnson or perhaps Elias Lindholm in action. Lindholm had a few days off and didn’t make it to the practice game.

See you tonight!
