Knickerbocker Country Club hosts the 2nd Women’s Open Championship


TENAFLY, NJ – The Knickerbocker Country Club welcomes the 2nd New Jersey Women’s Open Championship, where the state’s best amateur and professional golfers will compete for the NJSGA’s newest championship on August 12 and 13.


One year after the inaugural event at Montclair Golf Club, Knickerbocker will be another phenomenal venue for amateur and professional women golfers. As the site of the inaugural New Jersey Open in 1921 and the Centennial Open in 2020, Knickerbocker, designed by Donald Ross and later by Herbert Strong, has stood the test of time. Knickerbocker’s special features have led to great moments at the North Jersey club. In total, Knickerbocker has hosted seven NJSGA championships.

Although the NJSGA is still in its infancy, 62 entries have already been accepted for the championship. The championship is open to amateur golfers from New Jersey with a handicap index of 9.6 or less and professional golfers.


On a course measuring over 557 metres in length, the 42 local amateurs and 20 female professionals, who are mainly made up of club and mini-tour professionals, will face a tough challenge.


Spectators are welcome to attend the event. Admission is free throughout the event. The use of carts is not permitted.


Player Notes
A selection of notable players from the 2nd Women’s Open Championship:


Monet Chun, 23from Canada, is playing in her first season as a professional. Chun, the 2024 Big Ten Golfer of the Year and two-time Big Ten individual champion, was ranked 58th in the WAGR. As a professional, she finished 6th at the ORORO PGA Women’s Championship of Canada and most recently on the LPGA Tour at the Canadian Women’s Open.


Meaghan Francella, 42returns to the Garden State after winning the inaugural title at Montclair Golf Club in 2023. Francella is currently an LPGA Teaching Professional at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, has won twice on the LPGA Tour and played in the Dana Open on Tour in July.


Samantha Galantini (a), 19is just back from a trip to the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in Oklahoma. Galantini, a rising sophomore at Quinnipiac University, won the 58th Mixed Pinehurst Championship with her brother Tyler in the first week of August.


Ami Gianchandani (a), 24finished second and top amateur at the inaugural Women’s Open at Montclair Golf Club last season. Gianchandani, a two-time New Jersey Women’s Amateur Champion (2021, 2023), finished second at Watchung Valley Golf Club last June. She is currently ranked 333rd in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).


Megan Meng (a), 17is headed to Northwestern University in the fall and is currently the 19th-ranked junior in the country and 402nd in the WAGR rankings. The Pennington native just competed in the Girls’ Junior PGA Championship and the 75th U.S. Girls’ Junior.


Samantha Morrell, 33an LPGA golf instructor, is a lead instructor at Durland Golf School in Naples Grande, Florida, and an assistant golf instructor at Fenway Golf Club in New York. Morrell, winner of the 2023 Connecticut Women’s Open, also has four major LPGA championships to her credit and competed in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2022, ’21, ’23 and ’24.
