A new season and a new challenge for BBC Sport forecaster Chris Sutton.

Sutton faced a guest in each of the 38 game weeks in the 2023/24 season and triumphed 21-10 (with seven draws), securing his second consecutive Predictions title.

In the first week of the new season, his opponent is The Courteeners frontman Liam Fray.

Both have given their predictions for the match between newly promoted Ipswich and Liverpool on Saturday.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-3

I am delighted with the job that Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has done. He has secured two consecutive promotions and brought in a number of players, including goalkeeper Arijanet Muric from Burnley. Kalvin Phillips is also set to join on loan for the season.

The way they start the season, as with all newly promoted teams, will be crucial to gaining confidence and establishing themselves in the top flight, and Ipswich have it tough, having to play at the Etihad Stadium next weekend after beating Liverpool.

Liverpool are yet to sign anyone under new head coach Arne Slot, but their firepower is incredible and I don’t think Ipswich can stop them.

Liam’s prediction: 0-2

I’ve heard Ipswich are pretty tough and worth watching, but I don’t know how that will translate to them in the Premier League. I can’t imagine anything other than a Liverpool win.
