Power outages in Douglas County nearly 1,000

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – A week after a severe storm left 220,000 people without power in the Omaha area, OPPD crews were still making repairs Wednesday.

By 6:45 a.m., Omaha Public Power District officials reported only 3,784 customers out — 2% of the original reports. By 10:30 a.m., that number had dropped to 2,670, and by 3:35 p.m., the number of outages in Douglas County was 1,061.

OPPD noted that some of Wednesday’s power outages were the result of more recent outages that occurred several days after the storm.

“They may be the result of after-effects of the storm, where tree branches weakened by the initial storm gave way and damaged power lines. And some may have nothing to do with the storm,” the OPPD update said.

Anyone who has experienced a recent power outage but has not yet reported it should do so on OPPD.com or through the OPPDConnect app. They can also report it by calling 1-800-554-OPPD (6773).

DON’T BE FOOLED

OPPD also warns customers that scammers may pose as utility employees who, over the phone or in person, demand a reconnection fee, payment of past-due bills, or even payment for meters or other equipment.

“OPPD employees always carry an ID card,” the utility company said in a statement.

OPPD CEO Javier Fernandez also spoke about new estimates for power restoration.

Anyone with questions about their bill or need assistance with a payment should call 402-536-4131 or 1-877-536-4131 to speak directly with customer service.
