Power Nickel uses Fleet Space’s ExoSphere technology for Chile exploration

Posted by Daniel Gleeson on August 24, 2024

Power Nickel, one of Canada’s leading metals exploration companies, has expanded its use of Fleet Space’s end-to-end mineral exploration solution ExoSphere to gain new geological insights for its projects along the Atacama Fault System in Chile.

Through operations on Power Nickel’s Zulema, Palo Negro and Tierra de Oro projects, ExoSphere has identified significant faulting in all three areas and gained new insights into geological structures and geophysical anomalies in the region. The results have enhanced Power Nickel’s objective of comprehensive 3D mapping of its properties in the heart of Chile’s Atacama Desert, Fleet Space said.

“The deployment of ExoSphere in the Chilean Copper Belt and the most prolific copper producing regions in the world is providing comprehensive geological insights into the mineral systems underlying the formation of these deposits,” said Flavia Tata Nardini, CEO and co-founder of Fleet Space Technologies. “The speed, depth and cross-scale capability of ExoSphere’s real-time 3D subsurface imaging not only improves the geological understanding of key copper regions in isolation, but also of the commonalities between them. This rapidly accelerates knowledge of mineral systems and provides a more holistic geological context required to scale and improve the success rates of data-driven copper exploration globally.”

The development of Power Nickel’s NISK project in Quebec, Canada has paved the way for the Company to apply similar strategies, operations and advanced technologies to exploit the exploration potential of 50,000 acres (20,234 ha) of the Company’s projects throughout the Chilean Copperbelt. On the path to developing the NISK project into the world’s first carbon neutral polymetallic mine, Power Nickel maintains a rigorous standard for the exploration techniques employed, ensuring they are consistent with the Company’s ESG charter and ambitious exploration timelines. This led the Company to utilize ExoSphere’s real-time 3D mapping capabilities at NISK to enhance exploration results and unlock sustainability benefits across operations, identifying several new targets.

“The simplified end-to-end data journey enabled by ExoSphere’s real-time 3D subsurface data acquisition, satellite-based data processing and rapid delivery of target information has taken our data-driven exploration strategies to new levels while delivering more sustainable results that are critical to our Company’s mission,” says Terry Lynch, CEO of Power Nickel. “Based on our experience from our deployments at NISK, we are applying these powerful new technologies to unlock efficiencies and identify targets at unprecedented speed, size and depth across our entire Chile portfolio to remain at the forefront of advances in global copper exploration.”

Power Nickel and Fleet Space are aware of the fundamental role of systems thinking and mineral structural architecture in copper exploration, they say.

ExoSphere’s unique ability to image structures in 3D from large-scale to property and deposit scale makes the system extremely useful for mapping crustal architecture: a critical part of all copper exploration programs, says Fleet Space.

The deployment of ExoSphere at Power Nickel’s projects in Chile builds on the rapid global adoption of Fleet Space’s solution by leading exploration companies operating in many of the world’s leading copper regions.
