Possible explosive device found near Overland Park recreation center

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (KCTV) – The area near an Overland Park synagogue has returned to normal after technicians responded to a report of a possible explosive device.

Overland Park police asked the public to avoid the area around 103rd and Conser St. around noon on Thursday, August 29. Experts were trying to determine if the report of a possible explosive device near the Indian Creek Recreation Center was true.

Police said the call came in at 10:40 a.m. about a vehicle parked on the east side of a building. The report said the vehicle had been parked near the building for a questionable amount of time and may have contained a suspicious item.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Overland Park Police Department Bomb Disposal Squad was called in to investigate.

Explosives experts used a robot to examine the truck. The police have now left the crime scene.

A person who lives behind the building identified the truck as her neighbor’s. She said it was parked in the lot overnight because there was not enough parking outside her apartment building.
