Manchester United face Porto this evening in the second game of the 2024/25 Europa League season.

Erik ten Hag’s side will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Spurs, with the Dutchman under huge pressure following a string of disappointing results.

Rumors are rife that Ten Hag only has two games left to save his job after United’s first game of the new league phase also saw a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace and a 1-1 draw against the FC Twente gave.

Porto haven’t had the same problems as United in the league, although they lost 3-2 to Bodo/Glimt in their first Europa League game. So tonight could be a much-needed win for Ten Hag ahead of this weekend’s friendly away game at Aston Villa.

Follow the latest updates on the Europa League clash below:

Porto 3-2 Manchester United

57 minutes: United are spending more and more time on the ball – Porto, now in the lead, are holding back and trying to frustrate their opponents.

Unable to break into the penalty area, Garnacho unleashes a fierce effort from distance that shoots Costa into the gloves.

Porto 3-2 Manchester United

54 minutes: It’s up to United to look for an equalizer.

Bruno Fernandes shoots a shot over the goal, hits it with force, but misses wide. There is no reason for Costa to worry.

Then Christian Eriksen is played into the penalty area and brings the ball to the baseline, but his return lands directly in the arms of the goalkeeper.

A better delivery and this could have been a golden opening for the visitors.

Porto 3-2 Manchester United

52 minutes: Chelsea fans will watch this tonight and regret that their side were unable to get a deal over the line for Samu in August, which reportedly fell through when control was finalised.

He looks like a ruthless goalscorer and a real talent. Definitely a film to watch this season.

GOAL! Porto 3-2 Manchester United

50th minute: GOAL! THEY TURNED IT UPside down!

It’s that man again, Samu, with an EMPHATIC finish, shooting into the roof of the net after Pepe pulled back.

They were 0-2 behind. They are now 3-2 ahead.

A big reaction is now required from Manchester United – a huge test of character.

Porto 2-2 Manchester United

47 minutes: Save! Big stop from Onana to deny Francisco Moura, who found himself in huge space collapsing behind.

Far too open from United. Nervousness at the start of the second half.

Half time: Porto – Manchester United 2:2

Alejandro Garnacho prepares to come on as a substitute at the start of the second half – and it’s Marcus Rashford who comes on.

One can only assume this was due to injury as he was on fire in the first 45 minutes.

Possible blow for Ten Hag.

What a half of football we just saw.

After a hectic 45 minutes, there is nothing to separate the two teams before half-time.

Within 20 minutes, United appeared to be in control of the game, with Rashford and Hojlund giving Ten Hag’s side an early advantage.

But two goals in seven minutes brought the visitors back as Samu and Pepe equalized for Porto.

First class entertainment on Thursday evenings. Long may it continue like this.

Porto 2-2 Manchester United

45+2 minutes: United fans will LOVE what they see from Marcus Rashford.

He terrorizes Joao Mario on the left and breaks into the box again, dancing past the defenders before firing a shot that is blocked.

The best player on the pitch so far.
