Police warn public after naked stranger sexually assaults woman in Calgary park

Police are warning Calgary residents to be vigilant after a naked man approached a group of three women walking through a park in the city’s southwest late at night, groped one of them in a sexually suggestive manner and pushed the other to the ground.

According to police, the women were at a residence in the 900 block of Ridge Road SW on Saturday before leaving the house around 11 p.m.

On the way back, the women were walking along a path through Elbow Park at around 12:55 a.m. when an unknown man appeared without any clothes.

“A naked, unknown man suddenly groped one of the women in a sexual manner,” said a police press release on Monday.

“The man pushed one of the other women to the ground,” police said. “Two of the women were able to escape and run back to the house, where they called police.”

Officers arriving at the scene found the third woman walking back to the residence alone at around 1:05 a.m.

Police knocked on every door in the area and deployed a helicopter and dog unit to search for the man.

He is described as a Caucasian man with dark hair and facial hair.

None of the women were hospitalized, police said.

“Serious incidents, especially when they appear to be random, cause great distress to victims and the community at large,” said Staff Sgt. Brad Moore of the Calgary Police Department.

“We have increased patrols in the area where the reported attack occurred and officers continue to investigate. We ask citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”
