TWIN FALLS – The Twin Falls Police Department and the Lamphouse Theater, 223 Fifth Ave. S., have partnered for a screening of a film about fraud at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“Thelma” is a film about a 93-year-old woman who is conned by a con artist posing as her grandson and sets out to reclaim what was taken from her.
After the film in the theater, detectives and officers from the Twin Falls Police Department will be available to answer questions and provide information about fraud and how to avoid fraud.
Tickets are $6 per person and the event is open to all ages, not just seniors. However, the film is rated R and not suitable for children.
While Lt. Terry Thueson hasn’t necessarily seen an increase in elder fraud, “we see that fraud affects all age groups,” he said. “The movie Thelma is one of many ways to raise awareness among all age groups.”

The film will be repeated at the Lamphouse Theatre on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., but without the police department presentation.
According to police, the man, disguised as a bank representative, convinced the victim that she had to withdraw the money from her account in order to protect her banking information.
