Police reportedly discovered mushrooms and marijuana in Amy Slaton’s home

Reality star Amy Slaton was treated at the Tennessee Safari Park Zoo for a reported camel bite before being booked into jail on Monday on numerous drug and child endangerment charges, PEOPLE has learned.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department tells PEOPLE that Slaton, the 1,000-pound sisters Star, received medical treatment at the scene before being taken into custody.

According to Sheriff’s Department spokesman Stephen Sutton, officers responding to the reported bite allegedly discovered “what they believed to be mushrooms” and “what they believed to be marijuana” in Slaton’s vehicle after smelling marijuana in the car and seeing the drugs “blatantly” lying around.

Slaton, 36, and Brian Scott Lovvorn were both arrested and charged with illegal possession of Schedule I and Schedule VI drugs and two counts of child endangerment, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

Slaton and Lovvorn remain in custody on $10,000 bail each, according to Sutton. It is not immediately clear whether either suspect has retained an attorney or is pleading guilty to the charges against him.

The Crockett County official said Slaton’s two children were then placed in the care of family members, adding that the Tennessee Department of Child Services will now investigate their situation as parents. No one else was injured at the Safari Park other than Slaton, Sutton said.

Slaton’s ex-husband Michael Halterman filed for divorce in March 2023. The couple has two sons together: Gage Deon (4) and Glenn Allen (2).

Slaton had spoken openly about her joy at becoming a mother.

“My heart is full,” Slaton said during an episode of 1,000-pound sisters shortly after giving birth to her second son, Glenn.

“Being a mother is what I’ve wanted to do since I was five years old, and I’ve always wanted two kids,” the reality star said. “Our family is finally complete. We can now put ourselves in a frame and hang us on the wall.”

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2023, Slaton said her mental health was “worse than it’s ever been” after her divorce.

“And it didn’t just affect me, it affected Gage and Glenn too. It was just hard.”

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said bail for Slaton and Lovvorn was set Tuesday by Crockett County General Sessions Judge Paul Conley.

“The charges and allegations mentioned in this press release are merely allegations of criminal conduct and are not evidence,” the sheriff’s department said in a Facebook post. “The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted in a due process of law.”
