A police officer who attended the Pennsylvania rally where former President Donald Trump was nearly assassinated fumed to a colleague about ordering the Secret Service to guard the rooftop from which the gunman opened fire, body camera footage shows.

An irate Butler Township Police Department officer can be heard seething over the Secret Service’s decision to leave the rooftop unoccupied – just 350 feet from where Trump spoke on July 13, according to footage released by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

“I damn well told them they had to put a damn guy here,” a police officer is heard saying shortly after a shot is fired.

“Who?” asks another officer.

“The Secret Service,” the officer replies. “I damn well told them that on Tuesday.”

However, the footage also shows that there was confusion as to whether the roof – on which would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks sits with an AR rifle – was actually covered.

“I thought you were on the roof,” one of the officers says to the police officer who claimed to have warned the Secret Service.

“No, we were inside,” he replies. “I told them to put damn guys here.”

“I didn’t think about it because I thought someone was on the roof…how the hell do you miss a guy on the way back when someone’s on the roof?” asks the other cop.

Body camera footage released by Butler Township also shows the moment when a police officer is dragged onto the roof – and suddenly finds himself staring down the barrel of the crook’s gun.

While he was giving a speech at the rally, the crooks opened fire on the former president, hitting him in the ear and killing a passerby.

Police killed Crooks within seconds of his first shot.
