Authorities are hunting a car theft suspect in South Los Angeles.

According to Los Angeles Police Department officials, the chase began around 7 p.m. in the Exposition Park area.

It is unclear what events prompted police to launch a pursuit, but officers could be seen running after the suspect, who was driving through area streets at extremely high speeds.

Sometimes they could be seen driving around other traffic, crossing into the opposite lane and sharing the road with innocent drivers.

Because the pursuit was dangerous, the LAPD called the pursuing officers into pursuit mode and let the suspect continue driving while only the police helicopter followed him.
