Police are searching for two suspects who fled a fatal crash between Taneytown and Littlestown on Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were called to the scene of a crash on Route 194, Francis Scott Key Highway, south of Kump Station Road, in Carroll County at approximately 4:33 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

When officers arrived, they found that it was a two-vehicle accident. A 55-year-old man was lying unconscious on the road.

The victim was identified as Terry Crowl, 55, of Taneytown, according to the release. Crowl was pronounced dead around 5 a.m. as a result of the accident, the release said.

After investigating, officers determined that a black 2019 Infinity QX60 was traveling south on Route 194 when it crossed the center lines and struck Crowl on a yellow 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the news release said.

The Infinity was found abandoned in the woods near the side of the road, according to the press release, and police learned that the Infinity had been reported stolen in Baltimore, Maryland.

Witnesses told officers they saw two men in their early 20s fleeing the Infinity after the crash.

Later, on August 20, 2024, at approximately 7:06 a.m., officers were notified that a white 2017 Ford Econoline panel van owned by Schildwachter Plumbing had been stolen from the 4400 block of Teeter Road near the accident scene.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office drone unit, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office canine units, Maryland State Police flight unit, Taneytown Police Department and a York County bloodhound assisted in the search for the suspects, the news release said.

As of Tuesday morning, neither the suspects nor the stolen van had been found, police said.

Police urged anyone who witnessed suspicious activity that may be related to the case to call 911.
