OXFORD, Mississippi (Gray News) – Many people seemed willing to help when crates of beer spilled from a truck in a college town, even though police were adamant that no help was needed.
Police in Oxford, Mississippi, reported that a road was closed after a semi-trailer truck lost part of its load and spilled crates of beer on Wednesday.
Photos shared by police on Facebook show boxes of Natural Light, Bud Light, Corona, Michelob Ultra and Modelo littering the street and sidewalk.
“And no, you can’t help with the ‘cleanup,'” police said.
However, there was disagreement in the comments section of the Facebook post.
“I mean, with a little help, it could be cleaned up quicker,” said one comment. “I’ve never turned down free help before.”
The University of Mississippi – Ole Miss is located in Oxford and students are already on campus. Move-in began on August 14.
In the comments, many expressed surprise that “hordes of students” did not come to the faculty’s aid.
“The fraternity house could have cleaned this up before the police came,” said one comment.
Many others offered their own “help” in cleaning up the mess, asking only for a few boxes in exchange for their good service.
