After finishing with a record of 5-12, the Chargers made significant changes, first hiring head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh reshuffled the coaching staff, bringing in offensive coordinator Greg Roman and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.

Justin Herbert is back and is trying to get back into shape after injuries to both hands. Herbert will have to do without Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, who are playing on new teams. With the new additions Gus Edwards, JK Dobbins and Joe Alt, they want to become physically stronger.

Derwin James, Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack and Asante Samuel Jr. lead the defensive line, along with Poona Ford, Kristian Fulton, Denzel Perryman, Bud Dupree and freshman Junior Colson.

The Raiders, who finished the 2023 season with a record of 8-9, are led by Antonio Pierce. Pierce served as interim coach before being promoted to full-time coach. Las Vegas will enter Gardner Minshew as its starting QB. Minshew will have solid support in Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Zamir White and rookie Brock Bowers.

Maxx Crosby headlines the defense. Crosby has continued to establish himself as one of the best defensive players in the league, recently setting a career-high with 14.5 sacks. He should benefit from the signing of Christian Wilkins, who comes from the Dolphins. Wilkins had 9.5 sacks in 2023.

Last season, the Bolts split the series with the Raiders. Las Vegas leads the overall series 69-58-2.

Sunday’s match between Los Angeles and Las Vegas begins at 1:05 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on CBS.
