Please don’t ask Channing Tatum what he would do with kittens to make a Gambit movie

Channing Tatum still really wants a gambit film, and he is willing to do anything (seriously) to make it happen.

Warning, spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

For many years, Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street actor Channing Tatum has been desperately trying to get a Gambit movie off the ground. After all, he is a fan-favorite character from the X-Men, and Tatum himself has a lot of affection for the player, but nothing ever came of it. At least until recently. While he hasn’t quite managed to appear on his own yet, he was featured quite prominently as Gambit himself in the MCU’s most recent film, Deadpool & Wolverine. He starred alongside some other familiar faces, such as Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Wesley Snipes as Blade, but while they were returning to their characters for the first time in many years, this was Tatum’s first time taking on the role.

And as it turns out, during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tatum shared just how far he would go to make a solo Gambit movie happen. “We were close to making the movie and then Fox got bought by Disney,” Tatum explained of the Gambit movie that almost happened before the acquisition. He then went on to say that MCU boss Kevin Feige is a huge fan of Gambit but wasn’t sure how to fit it into the film universe. “He literally said, ‘I love Gambit. I just don’t know how to do it right now. I don’t know how (Gambit) fits into what we’re doing. So I need a minute to figure it out.'”

There is still no confirmation that there could be a Gambit movie. Feige is believed to want an X-Men movie first, but Tatum said, “Now we’ve kind of cracked a code. Hopefully. I would kill kittens… I would do a lot of terrible things to make a Gambit movie happen.” Apparently Tatum is not one to mess with when it comes to Gambit.

Deadpool & Wolverine is doing very well, breaking the $1 billion mark at the box office worldwide over the weekend. Given the recent failures of the MCU, Feige and the other executives are surely very happy about that.
