Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud offered some advice to Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams following a 19-13 win on Sunday night.
The two met on the field for the customary post-match handshake, with Stroud advising Williams to “just keep going” and not lose his confidence.

After throwing for less than 100 yards in his debut, Williams had another game to forget. He finished the game against the Texans completing 23 of 37 passes for 174 yards and two interceptions. Houston also sacked him seven times.
The 2024 first-round pick is still adjusting to life in the NFL. His second interception was the kind of play that could have been an incredible highlight at USC thanks to his ability to improvise. Instead, he evaded the pass rush and forced a throw into triple coverage.
For the Bears, the far greater concern is that they have seemingly done nothing to meaningfully improve the support system around a young franchise quarterback. Sunday’s game was almost no difference from the last two years with Justin Fields as quarterback.
With only two games played, it’s too early to have any major discussions about what this means for Williams’ development, but it’s safe to lower expectations for the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner in his first year.
