New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from US President Joe Biden today and discussed, among other things, his recent visit to Ukraine and the situation in Bangladesh.

Speaking on Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent commitment to dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for an early return to peace and stability.

During the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi called for a diplomatic solution to the more than two-year-long war with Russia.

“We have not been neutral from day one. We have taken sides and are firmly committed to peace,” he told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Prime Minister Modi and Biden also expressed concern about the situation in Bangladesh. They stressed the need to restore law and order and ensure the security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh.

The Indian government raised the alarm immediately after the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina following reports of attacks on the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s new interim government has already declared its determination to restore law and order and protect all minorities.

Prime Minister Modi and Joe Biden also discussed the significant progress made in bilateral relations and stressed that the India-US partnership is geared towards benefiting the people of both countries and humanity as a whole.
