Phoenix-based shower trailer service ceases operations in Tucson

Cloud Covered Streets, a Phoenix-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide showers, haircuts and laundry services to the homeless, began operations in Tucson this week but shut down a few days later.

Currently, only one shower trailer is in operation in Tucson.

Cloud Covered Streets unveiled its Tucson trailer at Hope City Church on August 15. River-Flowing Wells Church, 3198 Flowing Wells Road, was originally scheduled to be one of the stops for the shower trailer’s opening week in Tucson.

However, the trailer was never shown.

River pastors Jeremy and Robin Rounds said The River church serves food on Friday mornings and nearly a third of their patrons plan to use the trailer.

“We told them they could shower on the 16th if they came,” Robin Rounds said.

The two said they had to turn away several people that day.

Cloud Covered Streets said they did not have enough staff to operate the trailer and could not bring another trailer from Phoenix so as not to disrupt the schedule there.

A board member said they would meet on Wednesday, August 21, to discuss the future of operations here. He also assured the public that funds earmarked for Tucson would stay in Tucson.
