Pedri comments on Eric Garcia’s red card for Barcelona against Monaco

FC Barcelona midfielder Pedri has expressed his opinion on the team’s early red card against Monaco in the Champions League.

Eric Garcia was the last to be sent off after 11 minutes for a foul following a bad pass from goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

Pedri, however, did not want to assign blame and spoke of a mix-up between the two players.

“It was a miscommunication between the two, things like that can happen. We have to move on and try to make sure that something like that doesn’t happen again,” he told the media.

“With one player less, we ran three times as much and we need to recover. I’m sure we’ll be fine on Sunday.”

Pedri was also able to draw some positives from the 1-2 defeat, even though it was Barca’s first defeat of the season.

“Despite the early red card, I still think that the team was up to the challenge and created chances with ten players,” he added.

“It’s not easy to play so many minutes with one player less and if you don’t win it’s the worst game of the season. That’s not how we wanted to start the Champions League, but the new format gives us seven games to turn things around.”

Barcelona’s next game in the Champions League is at home against Swiss side Young Boys on Tuesday, October 1. Young Boys lost their opening game of the competition 3-0 to Aston Villa.
