Pearl Jam welcomes Glen Hansard and John Krasinski to the end of its North American tour

Yesterday, September 17, Pearl Jam brought the North American leg of its extensive Dark matter The world tour concludes with the second of two dates at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway. Following the thrilling opening set on Sunday, September 15, last night’s show ended the band’s 22-stop U.S. tour with a bang, adding two more sets of recognized classics and rarities to an unforgettable summer of touring. Highlights of the two-date tour included guest appearances by Glen Hansard and John Krasinski.

Pearl Jam took the stage on Sunday with popular B-side “Footsteps,” opening a set that dug deep into the band’s music and included both classics and rarities. After three decades at the forefront of grunge, the band has a lot to celebrate, but still found room for five key tracks from their 12th studio album. Dark matterwith thrilling versions of “Scared of Fear,” “React, Respond,” “Wreckage,” “Something Special,” and the title track. An exciting surprise at the alternative figureheads’ penultimate U.S. show was a breakout of “Blood,” last performed at Fenway on September 2, 2018; this inclusion also seems to have been relatively unplanned for the band, who added the 1993 album “Blood.” Opposite outstanding, where “Never Destination” was originally planned.

The band’s energy reached its peak in the encore, where Peal Jam performed their fourth cover of Glen Hansard’s “Song of Good Hope,” this time calling the Irish musician himself on stage to support the version. After Hansard left, The office Star John Krasinski unexpectedly appeared on the penultimate song, contributing vocal harmonies to Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” This shock led the band to the timeless show closer “Yellow Ledbetter,” which left fans hungry for more on the second night.

The iconic hard rock quintet returned on Tuesday with “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town,” another atmospheric, hard-hitting Against. The band’s follow-up album added “Running,” “Won’t Tell,” and “Setting Sun” to the list of Dark matter Tracks in Fenway and a tour debut of the 2020 Gigatons Single “Superblood Wolfmoon”. The band’s second show put a greater emphasis on covers, with Neil Young’s uplifting “Fuckin’ Up”, a solo version of Eddie Vedder’s Little Steven’s “I Am a Patriot”, The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” and The Swell Season’s “Falling Slowly”, which again featured frontman Hansard. With another explosive closing song, “Yellow Ledbetter”, the band heads to Oceania to conclude their world tour.

Pearl Jam will return to New Zealand on November 8th and return to Australia on November 13th, 16th and 21st to round out the year of touring. For tickets and more information visit pearljam.com/tour. Read more about Dark matter Here.
