Patriots vs. 49ers: Live updates, scores, news, game details for NFL Week 4

It’s been 10 days since the New England Patriots last took the football field, which was a poor performance on Thursday Night Football. After a strong week of work, which included a bonus day on Monday, they will look to right the ship and get back to .500 a year.

Standing in their way, however, are Super Bowl rivals the San Francisco 49ers, who themselves have suffered two defeats in a row.

First quarter

The Patriots called tails and lost the throw, leaving Jacoby Brissett and the offense first on the field. Three direct touches from Rhamondre Stevenson to open the game moved the opening chains before Brissett converted the next third down to Pop Douglas with a rollout to his right. New England faltered in midfield and then decided to punt after taking the delay on 4th-and-3.

Bryce Baringer’s punt started the 49ers’ first drive at their own seven-yard line. Brock Purdy converted the first of the third with his legs before finding Brandon Aiyuk down the field for 38 yards shortly after. On the following two third downs, Purdy’s agility flashed again as he used his legs to move the chains before getting out of the pocket and finding George Kittle moving inside the 10-yard line. On 3rd-and-goal, Purdy’s pass to Jennings fell incomplete as Marcus Jones covered him. Jake Moody’s 22-yard field goal was good. (Patriots 0:3 49ers)

Injury update: C David Andrews (shoulder) is doubtful to return.

New England’s first play was a run against Stevenson, who fumbled for the fourth game in a row, losing his second game in a row.

After the turnover, the Niners took over at the Patriots’ 30-yard line and scored a first down, but New England’s defense held strong and forced another field goal. (Patriots 0:6 49ers)

Second quarter

Back in possession, Brissett’s third-down pass over the middle of the field was intercepted by Fred Warner, who took it back 45 yards for a pick six. (Patriots 0:13 49ers)
