Patriots legend Bill Belichick criticizes Will Levis of the Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis wished he had made a special throw after his team’s 24-17 loss to the Chicago Bears.

With 7:35 left in the fourth quarter, Levis was mobbed by some Bears defenders and threw the ball toward the sideline, either to throw it away or to find receiver Tyler Boyd. Instead, the ball was caught by Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who brought it back into the field and scored the game-winning touchdown.

After the game, former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who now appears as an analyst on “The Pat McAfee Show,” talked about the play.

“The most important thing for the quarterback is decision making,” Belichick said of Levis on the Pat McAfee Show. “There’s no upside to this play. There’s only downside. It’s just a terrible decision.”

Had Levis been sacked on that play, the Titans would have had to punt the ball back to the Bears with a 17-16 lead and just a few minutes left, but that’s a much better scenario than trailing 24-17, which is what ultimately happened.

It’s a play that someone like Ryan Tannehill, who was the starting quarterback in Week 1 last year, probably wouldn’t make, so the Titans might have won the football game if Levis hadn’t been under center.

However, Levis still has a lot of potential that hasn’t been fully realized yet, and that’s why the Titans handed him the keys. The Titans need to see how he responds to being named the starter, and the Week 1 loss (especially this game) was not a great start. Maybe Levis can still turn things around, but plays like this can make or break a career if they become a pattern.
