Patricia Arquette stars in drama “Murdaugh Murders” on Hulu

Hulu will dramatize one of the most discussed crime cases of recent years.

The streamer has greenlit an as-yet-untitled miniseries based on the Murdaugh murder case. Emmy winner Patricia Arquette will star as Maggie Murdaugh in the project; the series comes from co-creators Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr and executive producer Nick Antosca.

The project is a reunion for Arquette and Antosca, who worked together on Hulu’s The law (for which Arquette won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie). Like that series, the Murdaugh drama will be produced by Antosca’s Eat the Cat distribution and Universal Studio Group’s UCP, with Antosca and Eat the Cat under an overall deal.

The Murdaugh case – in which Maggie’s husband Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison for killing her and their son Paul – has been the subject of numerous podcasts and TV documentaries, including shows on Netflix, Max and ID. The Hulu series is based on reports by journalist Mandy Matney, creator and co-host of the Podcast on Murdaugh murders (later renamed True sunlight as it expanded its focus to other cases).

Full (Rectify, Lock & Key) will serve as showrunner for the series. He and Carr, a documentary filmmaker known for Britney vs Spears And I love you, now die (and who has a first-look deal with UCP), executive producing with Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat and Matney.

Arquette is repped by Gersh, 3 Arts Entertainment and Goodman Genow; Fuller is repped by UTA, Grandview and Johnson Shapiro; Carr is repped by UTA and Sloss Eckhouse; Antosca is repped by WME; and Ginsburg Daniels and Matney are repped by UTA.
