Part of the Mass. Pike closed to all evening traffic after truck rollover

The westbound Massachusetts Turnpike is completely closed at mile marker 106 near the intersection with Interstate 495 Thursday afternoon after a truck overturned, causing injuries and spilling hazardous materials onto the road, first responders said.

The west side of Mass. Pike is expected to be closed “during the evening rush hour,” the Department of Transportation said in an email at 3:39 p.m.

Westbound traffic heading to the accident scene is being diverted off the highway via Route 9 or Exit 111 in Framingham.

The Mass511 website showed that traffic was backed up behind the Natick exit or exit 117 starting at 4 p.m.

According to a post on X, the app formerly known as Twitter, Westborough firefighters responded to the incident, which occurred around 2 p.m.

According to the Westborough Fire Department, the hazardous material was spilled on the west side of Mass. Pike just before I-495 in Hopkinton.

At around 3:20 p.m., a fuel leak from the truck was sealed and firefighters ordered the truck moved to one lane so traffic could bypass it, the fire department said in a separate post on X.

Ben June, who was about half a mile from the accident scene, had been parked on the street for 45 minutes because of it, according to a post he made on X at 3:11 p.m.

The Westborough Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation did not immediately respond to MassLive’s request for comment.
