Palm tree catches fire after lightning strike during monsoon

This year, people in many areas are dealing with problems ranging from potholes to flooded roads as the monsoon season brings downpours. But beyond these typical annoyances, one social media user has highlighted a rather frightening aspect of the rainy season. Instagram user Sally Nolan posted a stunning video showing a palm tree being struck by lightning during heavy rain. The clip has since gone viral, leaving people in shock and awe.

At the very beginning of the video, Nolan is filming the rainstorm from her cozy room. She seems to be enjoying the scene of the pouring rain on this calm and serene evening. Seconds later, a very strong bolt of lightning strikes the palm tree right outside her window, causing flames to shoot through the palm tree into her window, creating a fascinating yet frightening scene. Nolan stepped back from the window, visibly shocked at what she had just witnessed.

Nolan had previously written in her Instagram post: “It’s all about timing. I was not expecting this. I am secretly filming the storm from my bedroom window.” This reminds one that nature can be very unpredictable and unforgiving.

One user recalled: “This also happened to a palm tree in my front yard; it became a long stick with only a charred tip.” Another user, Tanja Jutanda, meditated on the power of nature: “When you think about how the sky can spit out a fire that can kill you, it’s overwhelming. What is life.”

Another commenter, Molivia, shared her own very scary experience with lightning. She wrote, “I once saw lightning strike a tree in front of my apartment. I was so scared that my neighbor’s ceiling fan fell down. Thunder is the sound of lightning and when it’s that close, it’s deafening.”
